For my first assembly job as a junior skilled worker, I headed to our long-standing customer Juhayna, the largest yoghurt supplier in Egypt. The Cairo-based company entrusted us with the upgrade of an old machine in order to modernise it. I will share some of my experiences and impressions in this experience report.
After a long journey, we checked into the hotel and used our free time to relax a little as we were due to start work the following day. On the first day, we took a general look at the machine to evaluate which measures needed to be taken and develop a work plan. Together with the customer, we then set small objectives to discuss when each work step should be completed by. Firstly, all existing motors in the machine were electrically disassembled and all connection cables removed from the cabinet. We then removed any cables that were no longer required and replaced the mounting plates in the control cabinet. We then also dismantled all of the motors in the machine ourselves and replaced them. Even the HMI, which is the interface between the machine and machine operator, was also replaced. Once this was completed, we were able to electrically reconnect the new motors. For the start-up, a programmer from Hassia came to try out the optimised program on the machine and determine whether all components were properly coordinated.
We were of course able to enjoy our days off during the assembly work. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic our free time was more restricted and so we simply spent it together at the hotel pool or visiting nearby sights.
All in all, it was a successful and, for me personally, very interesting assembly job. I was able to learn lots from my colleagues and gained confidence through the responsibilities I took on there. Furthermore, I was able to gain interesting insight into Egyptian culture which remains very much with me to this day. The time spent with my colleagues during the assembly work had a positive impact on the working environment, which I consider very important. The assembly job made it clear once again that Hassia always supports, trusts and encourages its employees.
I had just finished my apprenticeship and was given a great opportunity to gather more experience.
Finally, I believe I learned a lot from the experience, became more independent and was able to discover a completely different country and its culture. I would be delighted to travel on another assembly job in future and am grateful to Hassia for this fantastic opportunity.
